About the Cooking Competition

The  ‘Meri Poushtik Rasoi’ contest by Glenmark Foundation , is a move to collectively gather knowledge about food that is traditional, nutritious and above all, relevant to local situations.

Glenmark Foundation has been working in the area of malnutrition for the last 8 years. In its constant endeavour to tackle this issue, it is continuously looking for innovative solutions. The pan India “Meri Poushtik Rasoi” Recipe Contest will assist in identifying, collating and appreciating the nutrition rich native recipes we have in Indian cuisine, which could offer an answer to curb malnutrition at a local level both in urban and rural areas using local and traditional ingredients, method and knowledge.

The Indian home kitchen is rich in traditional, nutritional knowledge on regional foods, local ingredients, heirloom recipes and food lore. Knowledge that has been passed down through generations of home makers and traditional cooks through the ages, but is getting lost over time as families get smaller, time gets scarce and convenience becomes primary. The ‘Meri Poushtik Rasoi’  recipe contest will help to draw out and document this existing knowledge and take it to a wider audience for advocacy around a more nutritious lifestyle. It will also build capacity of social workers in the field of malnutrition and provide them with the tools and knowledge to convince women in the community on the need and methods to cook nutritious and locally relevant recipes. Finally, it will encourage all women to experiment and look at new ideas of preparing and even presenting food in an interesting way for children to lead a healthy life.

The Contest aims to reach out to people across society who can contribute to food and nutrition that could influence food habits. These include health and social workers such as ASHA workers, NGOs working in communities and Anganwadis to individuals, home cooks, chefs, professionals, nutritionists, students from nutrition, and hospitality colleges, Food bloggers and more to come together, rediscover our roots and create a repository of indigenous food knowledge that can serve the collective good

The objective of this multi-stakeholder initiative is to meet two objectives. That of collectively creating a repository of indigenous, locally relevant, nutritious recipes as well as to sensitize those in the field of nutrition about the seriousness of the issue of malnutrition in both urban and rural settings.

The Award will include a Certificate and Cash award for the Grand Winner as well as for all finalists in each category.

About Glenmark Foundation

Instituted around the theme of ‘Healthier Children, Healthier World’, Glenmark Foundation, the CSR arm of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, is actively working towards improving child health and reducing Infant/Child Mortality. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), new-borns face the highest risk of dying within a few days of birth. Majority of these children can be saved by access to simple and affordable intervention. Almost half the number of early infant and child mortality incidents is caused by malnutrition. A few years ago, we conducted a detailed research in the field of child health and the key findings of the research directed us to initiate Project ‘Kavach’ which is our flagship CSR program. The word ‘Kavach’ means a shield and symbolizes protection.

Through our various interventions launched along with our NGO partners, we aim at encouraging a positive health seeking behaviour among pregnant women and mothers with infants, and caregivers towards right nutrition including – good hygiene practices and ensuring complete immunization for children. We have been able to positively impact over 6, 18,617 lives through our various child health initiatives over the years.
